Our Aims

As a Constituent Member of St Mellitus College we share with all in that community the following core aims:

To develop Christian leaders who will:

  • be faithful signs and heralds of the kingdom of God in a suffering world
  • provide effective, theologically grounded and mission-focussed leadership for
    churches in a time of rapid cultural change
  • grow in self-understanding and awareness
  • develop sustainable disciplines of personal prayer and worship and a good work-life balance
  • learn how to give and receive supervision from others
  • become reflective practitioners, learning how to relate their growing experience of ministry to theological learning
  • nourish a personal growing faith and trust in the grace and love of God
  • understand their vocation to public ministry and mission
  • understand the nature of the kingdom or reign of God through engagement with the Bible and the Christian theological tradition
  • understand the place of the Church in the contemporary world, both through study and a significant engagement with a particular context of ministry
  • Explore theological issues of human identity, suffering and transformation
  • develop ways of communicating the gospel appropriately and effectively
  • develop skills in and understand the dynamics of leadership and the exercise of power
  • relate appropriately to a range of Christian spiritualities and theologies
  • learn key approaches to evangelism, church planting and new forms of church
  • learn to work collaboratively with others
  • become effective communicators of the gospel, connecting the abiding truth of Christian faith to the contexts in which they live, work and minister
  • Grow in understanding of apologetic strategies and arguments to engage with the widespread critique of religion in contemporary British society.
  • develop skills in key ministerial tasks and roles, such as preaching, leading public worship, relating to colleagues and secular agencies

Specifically for Anglican students:

  • Understand and be able to operate well within the structures and advantages of the Church of England and its commitment to local communities
  • Understand and relate appropriately to Anglican traditions of theology, liturgy and spirituality
